A Florida man is dead and two others are injured after an explosion on a trailer home in the Port St. Lucie area, police said.
An off-duty police officer saw the explosion at about 2:45 a.m.
Monday on the 200 block of E. Westlake Drive.
The officer, who was not injured, called police and the suspect fled the scene in a white Nissan pickup truck.
The driver, who is also an off-camera video reporter, was later found dead.
Police say the suspect is a contractor for home building company KPMG and was working as a security guard.
A spokesman for KPMI said the company is cooperating with authorities.
“Our hearts are broken today as we mourn the loss of a valued employee and friend,” the company said in a statement.
“We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends.”
Police have not released any details about the suspect’s motives, but the explosion appeared to be caused by an electrical device.
They are investigating whether the device was connected to a gas line.
Police were looking for the truck, but it wasn’t immediately clear where.
Police said it appeared the explosion was the result of a “sudden explosion” caused by a small electrical shock.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call them at (954) 521-7700.
