By Andrew GwynneFourFourTwo A group of independent contractors from the United States, Brazil and Singapore delivered $100m worth of supplies to Australia’s war effort during the 2010-11 Afghan conflict.
Key points:The Australian Government has paid for the delivery of goods from four US contractors to the Australian Defence ForceThe group were contracted to deliver goods for the US Department of Defence”A little more than a year ago, a delegation of our contracted US suppliers, including the delivery and maintenance company, delivered a shipment of 1.6 million tonnes of rice, potatoes, beans and other agricultural products to the Aussie Defence Force’s Kandahar garrison,” Defence Minister Christopher Pyne said in a statement.
“These goods were delivered in the early hours of the morning, in the presence of the Chief of Defence Staff, the Commander of the Defence Staff and members of the Australian Armed Forces’ Special Operations Command.”
They were delivered with the full cooperation of our contracting partners and are a significant contribution to the successful delivery of this critical Australian-led operation.
“The delivery was a significant achievement for the Australian Government.”
In addition to providing vital supplies to the Afghan National Defence Forces (ANDSF), it also demonstrates the Australian military’s commitment to the ANDSF,” Defence Industry Minister Christopher Pincher said in the statement.”

Over the years, we’ve worked closely with the ANDF to help them achieve their mission of protecting the country, supporting the defence of Australia and its allies and contributing to peace and security in Afghanistan.
“The ANDSR has been fighting the Taliban since 2001.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) says the group has delivered supplies to Australian troops in Afghanistan since 2011.”DFAT is committed to delivering the most cost-effective, reliable and high-quality humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan,” DFAT spokesperson David Young said in an email.”
This has included providing food and medical supplies for troops in a number of countries, including in Afghanistan, as well as providing food for soldiers on duty in Afghanistan and in other countries, such as Nigeria, Pakistan and the Republic of the Congo.
